1. Salvador Ocartpo, Chilean Comrun_ist, was in -auador luring the first weak of
January 1949. It is reported that he traveled under an assumed name and
crossed the Ecuadoran-Colombian -rder illegally. There are no records in the
Ecuadoran Department of Irri jrration which show his entrance or his departure.
2. Jhile in Guayaquil he stayed at the home of Pedro Saad, Actinr Secretary General
of the Partido Ccnunista del Ecuador (PCE). lie is said to havo chew ced on the
-activities of the POE and stated that he wo'ztd. report on his observations to
"headquarters in Mexico".
3. Aug'stine Vera Loor, a former member of the POE, stated that Oeempo discussed
the necessity of vinninp back all former members and the possibility of
removing; Vera from the list of expelled rmbers. Vera said he had no interest
in joining the Party again as he is now considered a "persona detente".
Ocanpo replied that because of Vera' a ex tbsion, he would be e?rer more valuable
if he secretly rejoined the Party since it wo,ald be assaried that he was no
longer active in Party af?airs.
