1. In November 1948, the Suv rst Trade Delegation in Switzerland purchased
from the 3rown-Boveri fim repair rants for steam turbines for an elec-
trical power plant in StalLne,,rad. The trice totaled approximately
$3005,000. The parts will be delivered in April 1949 to Stalingrad.
The raehines there are used for building up heat reserve (WWrmereserve)
for the Orals power works.
2. The Soviet Trade Delegation approached the Escher-Wyse Co., Rardstrasso
319, Zurich, to purchase heat pumps (Arnepumpen). The price offered
was attractive, but Director Ernst Schmidheiny r3fused the contract for
fear the Soviets would copy these pumps later without rgyin! a license
fee. In such a case, the Swiss %vernrent would be in no position to
protect hit.
3. The von Roll' sche Eisenverbe. Gerlafingen, was approached by the Soviet
Trade Deletion in December 1948 concerning, the delivery of a steel
rollini mill for teninr*rad, but the company avoided entering into a trans-
action by Stating gist the rinirrm time for delivery would be two years.
