OF ENCLS. (LISTED BELOW) NO. OF PAGES SUPPLEMENT TO REPORT NO. l.. Angel Zuniga Huete, a defeated candidate in the recent Honduran presidential elections, who is now in exile in Mexico, recently set forth his observations concerning the Central American revolutionary situation in a letter dated 25 January 1949, written to Dr. Cecilio Lopez Poncb, Cellejon Concordia 11-SC, Guatemala City 2, Zuriga Huete remarked that President Prio of Cuba had lost much of his former enthusiasm for the democratization of the Caribbean area since his recent visit to Washington, and implied that this would affect the attitude of President Arevalo of Guatemala. Zuniga Huete advised Lopez Ponce that Juan Bosch and Fufemio Fernandez had both left Cuba early in January, and were to pass through Guatemala City end return to Cuba on 15 January, but as of 25 January there had been no report of their return. According to the letter, Juan Bosch was to have contacted Lopez and Zuniga in Guatemala, but when Bosch did not appear, Zuniga moved on to Mexico., leaving a letter behind in Guatemala for Bosch., 4. Zuniga Huete observed that the deadline for further revolutionary action by Nicaragua had almost passed, He also was skeptical that the Honduran President would carry out his promise to /!revalo and Figueres,* to rid the government of the influence of ex-President C,-rias. Zuniga Huete expressed his doubt that Carias, still in effective control, would permit Galvez to make any drastic changes and was of the opinion that the two would go along peacefully together because the United Fruit Company would have nothing to gain by a feud between them, 25X1A2g This document Is hereby rogrerdcd to CONFIDENTIAL in accordance with the letter of 1C October 1973 from the Director of Central Intelligence to the Archivist of the United States.
