OF PAGES 1 NO. tusm KUM SUPPLEMENT TO REPORT NO. Isak a!ahdi, Indonesian Republican representative in Siam, recently obtained ton Republican newsreels for a private showing in Bangkok. Most of the fila!s were documentations or Dr. Sukarno with his cabinet in negotiations 'rith visiting Americans, British, Indiana, and United Nations observers One film showed a 'Republican Independence Days mass rally which was held against Japanese orders. Another recorded many sloppns in English, quoting the United States Declaration of Independence. Mahdi stated, In reply to a query, that the Republicans expected American troops rather than British to land in Indonesia at the and of World War U. The films were 35 m. Indonesian language prints, interspersed with English translations. They are old and warn to such an extent that they can no longer be used in certain types of protectors. The film were produced in Jogkerta. A 16 mm. silent reel showed the First Indonesian Olympiad held in the iummer of 19148. Mahdi intends to show the films wherever possible in Siam. They will he run at Chulalongkorn University as soon as Siamese language slides are made up. it is hoped that local and upcountry theaters will accept bookings. It is expected that there will be no admission charge. hdi is extremely anxious to have American anu British films shown in Republican areas to help counteract Soviet propaganda.
