The Bulgarian naval bases are located at Sozopol, Balaik, Burgas, Mesemvriya (Nesebor) and Varna. The Soviet naval bases are located at Varna and Burgas. 2. There is an electric power station at the port of Varna which is supervised by the army. The 400 volt transformer supplies electricity to the shipyards and the air fields at Varna. There are 477 skilled workars and 400 laborers at the power plant, all of whom are under the supervision of Soviet engineers. 3. Coastal fortifications at Varna consist of long range guns emplaced in crnorete with anti-aircraft artillery near by. t'?achine runs are emplaced in concrete bunkers. Some or these fortifications existed before the war, but the defense plans have been expanded and fortifications are still under construction. There are a total of nine coastal krtillery hatteries located in the Varna region. 4. There is a large air field with concrete runways serving land and sea planes located four kilometers from the center of Varna. There are two large work shops for repairing aircraft. 5. The shipyards at Varna construct only naval craft; the engines are supplied by the Soviet Union. About 3,500 army personnel work at the yard under the supervision of Soviet engineers. 6. -There are motor boats at the naval port of Burgas, similar to those used by the Bulgarian Danube Fleet. Each is equipped with two cannons and one anti-aircraft machine gun. Coastal artillery surrounds the city, and access to the port is largely mined. 7.
