This official hopes to diminish the loss of lives and destruction of property by appointing Indonesian police throughout Republican areas. He stated that the economy of the country had already been set back six months. ,2o He does not believe that Sukarno will be acceptable to the Indonesian Federalists or to the Dutch. He believes that Hatta, Sjahrir and other former Republican officials will b3 offered posts in the new state of Central Java. It is unlikely that they will accept such posts as the Ntasjvmi and the Partai Nasional Indonesia groups have joined with the Communists in a common front of resistance.
