The conflict in Indonesia is no longer between the Federation and the Republic, but between the Indonesians and the Dutch. A.dil fools the Indonesians can no longer deal with or trust the Dutch. 2. The Netherlands Prime Minister will probably propose that Hatta be offered a position in the Interim Government. No Republican leader expects anything to come from such offers as this. 3. The Republican group in West Java is the largest and most influential of the four groups in this area. This group has decided not to participate in the formation of the new cabinet or parliament in Pasoenda until Dutch action in regard to Republican leaders has been clarified and the results of the New Delhi conference are known. 4. Adil believes the feeling against the Dutch is so intense and ao mistrustful that any United States of Indonesia union with the Netherlands will be difficult to maintain. His contactswith many of the leaders of Pasoenda have led him to believe that eventually every effort will be made to oust the Dutch from positions of political authority. 5. The political picture now is one of great confusion. The Indonesians are waiting for the. next Pitch step. I January 1949- 6. Guerrillas destroyed 10,000 rubber trees and smoke houses on one plantation. The present price of rubber makes it possible for this loss to be absorbed, but if the price of rubber drone, such losses would make it Impossible to do business. This loss is considered as nothing compared to losses other estates are suffering and will suffer.
