SUPPLEMENT TO
1o Although Salvadoran aid for the-Nicaraguan revolutionary movement against
Somoza has been denied for the present, Major Oscar 0sorio, one of the
leaders of the governing junta in El Salvador, has given his personal
promise to revolutionists Vicente Saenz and Juan Jose Mesa that within one
or two months he will be able to make a concrete offer. Saenz and Meza
departed for Mexico on 3 January after having failed to obtain aid on their
first attempt.
Carlos Castillo Ibarra, Nicaraguan revolutionary leader, was expected to
return to El Salvador from Guatemala to renew efforts to date in military
aid while Major Osorio gets rid of Lt. Colonel Cordova, his rival in the
Salvadoran Junta.
3. Nicaraguan revolutionaries now say they were double-crossed by President
Figueroa of Costa Rica, whose last minute attitude precluded operations
against Nicaragua from Costa Rica and frightened the President of Guatemala
into withholding aid for the revolutionaries.
