The Dutch are about to begin political talks with Soekarno, >tta and
Sjahrir. If these preliminary feelers are unsuccessful, the Republican
Government in Sumatra will continue. Unless the Dutch withdraw to the
status quo linen there appears little possibility of the Republican leaders
accepting Dutch proposals.
2. Guerrilla activity will greatly increase In the next few days. The Tasikmalaya
area and the outskirts of Batavia are filling up with guerrillas, Guerrilla
activity is expected to be the strongest in West Java and Sumat.
3d
On the morning of 29 December, Soekarno, Hatta and Sjahrlr 'ore taken by plane
to Sumatra, probably to the take Toba area. There they could be released
i ithout being able to go anywhere.
Guerrilla activity is already beginning to worry the Dutch. Being interned together;
enabled the Republican leaders to decide on a common policy of resistance.
