As a result of a shake-up in the ea . aza n revolutionary command,. the
da?-;e of the invasion of Nicaragua has been fixed for 3. January 1949, and
only. unforeseen developments can change it nose Hosendo Arguello Jr, has
been left as Co nderri.nnohief, but his general staff is now made-up of
Carlos Paso.,, (r..os Castro Wass r, Carlos Rivers Delgadillo, Julio
Garcia, Adana Velez., Manuel Gomez and Alejandro Cardenas
2. The Patriotic Nicaraguan Committee is not happy over the preponderance of
representatives from the traditional Nicaraguan political parties., but has
agreed to contribute most of the armament, and is still supported by
Arevalo and Figueroa,, The Committee consider* Somozave downfall a sure thing.,
especially if the Guardia Nacional deserts him when convinced the movement
is an all=out effort,, But the Committee fears a civil war afterward because
of the type of individuals composing the general staff. The members of the
C'oramittee fear heat attempts will be trade to assassinate them once they have
shred their arm v i nt.
3. Juan Jose Mow and Carlos Casti1lo lbarra, members of the Committee, are now
in 1 Salvador attempting to arrange for transit permission through Salvadoran
territory. if Salvadoran military help is offered, the invasion date -may
possi'b1y be postponed in order to organize the operation; but this prospect
is not considered likely,
