L. Ibrahim, in charge of the Anr katan Femuda Obat dan Tjando (APOT) (`iedic:in-
and Opium Youths Corps) group guarding the opium factory at Salemba Number L,
Batavia-Centrurn, stated that a lnr quantity of thrt opium which belonged to
the Dutch before the war and was not used by the Japs (about 20 tons) was
carried away on orders from !iis s'meriors to Jogjakarta. In December 1945
and 'anuary,1946 some of #.h' opium taken to Jogjakarta was si ug;;Ied out via
Checibon to Singapore to be' exchanged for rifles and Sten guns. These guns
were used in equipping the !r in bodies of the seven divisions of the predecessor
of the Tentera r+asional Indonesia.
In lay 1,948, negotiations acre conducted b-' Rarm#elan Oetoyyo, Repu' lican repre-
sentative, in Singapore, with a Siamese concern, represented b- ish-speaking
foreign economic adventurers,: for thr" exchange of the balance of the opium
for war materials. Early in J'zne 1948, a plane was chartered fo.' carrying
passengers from Bangkok and Singapore via 13oekit Tinggi. to the a..rport in
Jogjakarta. On its return it will carry as much as one ton of o ?i.,amm
