1. `The lrecdnt changes in the staff of the Communist weekly, La Voz de Mexico,
, were 1rourht about by Blass Roca, Secretary Ceneral of the
Partido Socialists copular of Cuba, during the latter part of September
wh- le he was on a visit in '?exi oo City. In spite of the fact that 7las noca

accomplisher' toward raisin-, funds to guarantee its publication. A study of
the receirts and disbursements from 25 September to 14 October reflects that
the paper, at the end of this period, had less than E1.00 (U.S.) left with
which to operate. Although La Voz de 'exico has appeared on schedule for the
past five weeks, there is no doubt that the funs s for each issue are raised
during the days immediately preceding its publication.
2. This situation exists even though the paper has received some financial aid
from Communist-dominated unions and from the treasury of the tarty itself.
In order to raise funds, loyal Party members are given as many as twenty copies
of the parer, paid for in advance by the member, to sell or give away as best
they can. Some money is raised at social functions promoted by the Party,
at which admission is charred. On 7 November, such a party was organized by
~:dith Landis, an Ilmerican and Communist Tarty member, and Miriam Misky de
flanrique, wife of Blas -anrioue, in the home of Diego Rivera. The dual pur-
pose of the Party was to celebrate the thirty-first anniversary of the Jctober
revolution and to raise funds for La Voz de ... exico. An admission fee of
three pesos was charged and drinl-s were so'd. Approximately 900 pesos profit
was turned over to La '.oz de 'erioo.
3. La .liven guardia, first published on 15 September, is the bulletin of the Youth
"Commission of the federal District Committee of the Communist Party. -t is
published semi-monthly at Communist Party headouarters, located at Atenas "'6.
This publication, which consists of two poorly mimeographed rages, is distributed
gratis. The number of copies mimeor-f-aphed depends upon the amount of money
ava'lable and thus varies w;th each issue.
