SUPPLEMENT TO ,
An emissary of Col. Osmin Aguirre y Salinas, a presidential candidate in
El Salvador, failed last week in his twofold mission to obtain for Aguirre
the support of General Somoza of Nicaragua and President-elect Calvet of
Hr)nduras.
2. The emissary was successful in interviewing Ceneral Somoza, but he was
unable to get any satisfaction regarding financial surrort or any definite
corms?tment to Aguirre. The emissary stated that in the past, Somoza had
praised Aguirre and declared that he was just the man to guide ^1 Salvador
and counteract the menace of the Caribbean Legion.
8. Aguirre's man was not even received in Tegucigalpa. Ile was considerably
puzzled by this turn of events, since he stated that he had-been asked by
Calvet and,Carias to return and tal'? business regarding supoort of Aguirre after
the ronduran elections were over. Calvet and Carias said at that time that
25X1A they favored Aguirre's candidacy. JComment. It is believed that the
reported negotiations of President uastanedaof El Salvador with Somoza and
Carlas may have something to do with the non*supr?ort of Aguirre.)
