c=ent. An article appearing on 20 October 194 in the Bolivian
newspaper El Conorcio accused Chile of being lax in her treatment and handling
of Communists, since a wholesale invasion of Stalinist Chileans was now taking
place in the Bolivian areas of Poo-ao, Oruro, and Uyuni. These Chilean
Communists are reportedly being aided in the activity by Partido Izquzierda
Revol,ucionario (PIR) members in the district. According to the article in
El Ccxrteroio, the Coiri niet agents are infiltrating into Bolivia in an effort
to escape the anti-Communist drive'of C,nzalez Videla, and to carry on their
Conriunist activities in Bolivia. The article concluded with a request that the
Bolivian Goverment take rlrastie action in this matter.)
1. A close check in the Bolivian areas of Poopo, Oruro, and :Jyuni has been na.le
to ascertain whether there is any possibility of such an infiltr-iti 'n of Chilean
25X1 A Ccnnuniste into Bolivia. there has been no known invasion
of Corrruniets in this area. There have been a few, stragg=lers coning into
Uyuni 'and its environs from Chile, but in each case they have been rye-ported
on, pieced up, and sent back to Chile,
2. I_r-ipmtion and police authorities in the district have been alerted for any
mass infiltrution, and any possibility will be investigated. In general, any
report of the entrance of large numbers of Chilean Consnunists into Bolivia
is discounted.
