1. Bacteriological r-search in Bulgaria is centered about the o og c
Institute in Sofia whose equipment was installed by the Rockefeller
Foundation prior to the start of the var. A subsidiary group, the
former Bacteriological. Institute at 25 Sliven Street, is also 50X1-HUM
doing research under the direction of the parent Institute. There
has been little or no progress in bacteriology since the war in
Bulgaria because of the lack of adequPte funds and modern equipment.
Z. The following are a list of prominent officials of the Institut50X1-HUM
Dr_ Alexander Xar'oarov: a department head at the Institute,
b. Dr. Sabeva, believed to be the only member of the Ins 50 50X-`

who studied in the Soviet Union.
c. Professor V1 the Faculty of Medicine at the
University of Sofi
d. Professor Zdravka Yatcheva, a Communist and a jacmIty member
of the University of Sofia.
e. Dr. Svetoslav Bardarov, considered to be one of the rost
capab bacteriologists in Bulgaria, is employed by the Ministry of
