The.break in diplomatic relations between Chile and Yugoslavia, between
Brazil and the USSR, and between Chile and the USSR, coupled with the current
Argentine attitude toward Communism, has helped to shake the morale of many
of the local pro-Communist Slavs. The previously reported attit- ide of the
police authorities in refusing permits for the
holding of dances and festivals by different Communist-dominated Slav clubs
and societies, has had a contributory effect. 25X1A2g
2. The local Slav Communist leaders are trying to combat the lowering of morale
by sending representatives to the different clubs and societies affiliated,
with the Slav Union of Argentina with orders to increase membership and to
broaden the scope of pro-Soviet activities. Little success has been achieved
to date, and Slav Communist activities in Argentina are considered to be at a
virtual standstill. Many of the Slav "fellow travellers" and Communists
believe it best to do nothing at present in the hope that Argentine official
wrath will be averted..

however.. made preparations several months ago to work clandestincsly in case of
necessity. It is believed that, should the goverment take strong measures
