It is reported that an important conference was to
be held in Guatemala beginning 5 November by Nicaraguan Liberals and Con-
servatives to discuss means for removing General Somoza from the Nicaraguan
political scene. The meetinx was to be presided over by President Arevalo
of Guatemala, with the support of President Castaneda, of I3. Salvadora It
was hoped to persuade Somoza to withdraw by guaranteeing his person and
property-
2. Those attending the meeting were said to inolude General iiniliano Chamorrop
(tau) Arguello Bolanos, Gustavo MManzanaress and Toribio Tijerino (Conservat-
ives); and Ramon Gonzales, Rosendo Arguello, and the latter?s s ca (Liberals).
