Hcgland(Suursaari) Island is located in the Gulf of Finland at 600 444 270 E. Originally Finnish territory, it was coded to the USSR at the conclusi'e of World lftr II. rocks on above and below the surface of the water one hundred yards offshore. Landint' from small craft is difficult, and larger craft have to be anchored at least six hundred yards offshore. The stony beach is replaced by a gravel ridge about twenty-five yards inland. The forest line starts about sixty yards inland. At about three hundred and fifty yards from the shore,rocky tctrain commences; this is much fissured and bears both heather and dwarf pines. Near the buildings at a point called Pohjoisrivi.(Northline) there is an expanse of grass, while at Poh oissivu (North-side) there stands a sps.
