The Tugoslsv Government has set up a national victualling organization which win be responsible for suppler all? national ships and foreign ships visiting Yugoslav ports, This organization will control food gtores in Fiume,, Zara., Split and Dubrovnik. 2. The foll owixr is reported on activities in Yugoslav ports: Kra evac A new wharf is being constructed along the Tito Shipyards. During the months January and February two small ships and five tugs were repaired in these shipyards. Split Work on reinforcing the S. F. Ihijee fare ter (northa'n sector) over a length of ].% meters is almost complete. Repairs to damage caused by. the aim bombardment of the Stalin Pier are stir, in progress. This damage affected a stretch of 100 meters of the pier. Vakarska Work on the construction of a landing pier to the west of the existing pier is in progress. This landing pier at present measures 64 meters in length and rises 4 meters above the water level. Susak Repair work on the foundations of the Bacica Pier is still in progress; it is expected to be serviceable by the end of 19117. Work on the x September pier is also in progress. Repair work on the Trieste Pier (120 meters long) is almost co plete... Repair work on the Zagreb Pier and the Vladimir Gortan breakwater is still in progress. Repairing of the oil port installations has now begun. S/OFFICIALS ONLY CENTRAL INTELLIGENCE GROUP Sibenik The "Ugljenare" Pier has now been repaired. B. Electricity: 3. Power Stations a. A plan for the construction of a hyddo-electric power station at Plezzo is at present being studied at Aidussina. b. Work is in progress on the construction of the Bogadic hydro-electric power station in the vicinity of Sarajevo. Work has already been completed on the construction of water conduit pipes, 2,300 meters long. The electrical generating plant is already on location and consists of two turbines, together with their respective generators. c. Repair work is being undertaken at Javornik on a 100-ton turbine, developing 1,700 HP. This turbine will be sent to the Krk River hydro-electric power station. High Tension Cables a. The electrical industry organization -- ttElektrodalmacija" proposes to construct high tension cables between Lozovec (near Sibenik) and Zara. Zara will thus receive its electric supplies from the Krk River hydro-electric power station. The thereto-electric power station at present functioning in Zara will be held in reserve. b. A high tension cable is under constiuction between Split and Sinj; it will be fed by the Tito hydro-electric power station on the Cetina River. c. A high tension cable linking the power station at Gruz (Dubrovnik area) with Komovac has been constructed. 5. Electrical Industry a. "Impol" works at Slovenska Bistrica is at present engaged in producing field telephone equipment, electric cables and electric motors. Construction of magnetoes is done by the Jesenice Steel Works. A factory at Kranj is engaged in work similar to that of "Impol" . C. Roads and Bridges: 6. Roads a. Work is proceeding on the Dalmatian Coast on the construction of a military road which is designed to form part of a strategic road stretching from north to south along the whole Adriatic Coast. b. Repair work is proceeding on the following main Dalmatian roads: Zara-Benkovac, Sibenik Trogir and Split--Makarska. In connection with the construction of the Zagreb-Belgrade autobahn work is now in progress on the Zagreb--Ivan ja-Ri j eka.Rugvica sector. d. Work on the Ljubljana Vrhnika road, which was suspended during the recent cold spell, has now been resumed. This road will nave a cement/concrete foundation, and a plan is at present being studied, which will provide for the extension of this road as far as Logatec. 7. Road Bridges a. The road bridge over the Nisava River at Nis is in the process of being reconstructed. This work is being done in conjunction with the re-metalling of the Belgrade-Nis road. b. A new steel bridge over the Kupa River is being built at Karlovac, which will link the center of the city with the Banija Sector. The bridge will be about 3.00 meters long. c. A new bridge over the G1ina River - 32 meters long - has been constructed on the Vojnic-K7adus road. a. A new bus service linking Logatec and Idria began on 22 March with the following timetable: Logatec Departure 0645 1615 Idria Arrival 0755 1725 Idria Departure 0415 1330 Logatec Arrival 0525 14 40 b. The following is the timetable for bus service between Kranj and Ljubljana: Kranj Departure 1330 Ljubljana Arrival 1915 Ljubljana Departure 2330 Kranj Arrival 0015 c. A bus service between Senj-Karlobag Oborvac will shortly be in- augurated. This service is designed to link up with existing Karlobhg-Gospic bus services. D. Inland Water Transport 9. Flans are being considered for widening the Bosna River between Sarajevo and Dobooj, with the object of making it possible to use this stretch of the river for the transportation of goods bt boat. The Bosna River is already opera to traffic between Doboj and the confluence of the Bosna and Sava Rivers at Sac. 100 The Yugoslav Goverment is currently studying plans for the construction of a navigable canal - 50 kilometers in length -F which will link Vukc-var with Samac. The canal would follow this course: North of Vukovar, East of Vinkovci, along the railroad track up to a few kilometers to the West of Gradiste and on to Samac. SECRO T/CONTROL U. S. With a view to preventing the widespread damage caused each year by the flooding of the Drava in the Varazdin area and in the area where the Drava links up with the Kura and Trnava Rivers,'the Government has ordered the construction of a number of flood dykes. Most of this work will take place in the following localities: Breze, Varazdin, Zabnik, Stefanovec, Prelog, Legrad, Kom rnica, Novacak, Levec, Medvedicka, Bukovlje, Brestic, Cickovina, Hrznica, Kotoriba and at Dekanovec on the 19hra. E. Industrry and Mines: 12. The "Gradis" (National Contractors) is at present responsible for the construction of the following enterprises in Slovenia: Ljubljana - t"Litostroj" Factory Maribor - Hydro-electric power station Medvode - tt It It it Mosta (Gorensko) - Dam for the hydro-electric power station Ljubljana-Vrhnika - Cement road. 13. "Gradis" will shortly begin construction on the following: Ceije - Wood workshops Trzic - Enlargement of spinning mill Jarsa' - Pharmaceutical products factory Zalog - Silos (,O meters high) Novo Mesto - Weaving mill. 14. The Ministry of Industry in Slovenia has announced that, as of 15 }larch 1947, the Ministry will be reorganized so as to provide for ten Directorates, each under the control of a General Director responsible directly to the Ministry of Industry. The Government is reported to be studying plans for the creation of a highly developed industrial center in the Zenica iron and coal mining area in Bosnia. Note: Zenica is located on the proposed Samac-Sarajevo railroad link. 16. A new asphalt mine has been open at Ulcinj in Montenegro. Note: Asphalt mines are known to exist only in Vrgorac (west of Metkovic) 30 kilometers from the nearest RR station and in Bustrenje (Macedonia) 7 kilometers from the nearest RR station. It is also understood that natural asphalt deposits exist in Selenice (about 20 kilometers east of Valona, Albania). SECI' /CONTROL U. S. V. OFFICIALS ONLY CENTRAL INTELLIGENCE GROUP 17. A new weaving mill is being constructed at Projupije in Serbia. 18. A new paper factory, located in Skoplje, has just begun production. Note: this is the only factory of its 50X1-HUM type in Macedonia and that the machinery installed was manufactured in Yugoslavia. 19.
