SUPPLEMENT
The Chinese Communists have a total of fifty planes in their air force, all of
which are Japanese- Ten of these are fighter planes and the rest are bombers
and reconnaissance planes. All are old and in poor condition, and spare parts
are unobtainable.
About thirty of more than 300 air force personnel are Chinese; the remainder are
Japanese. The Japanese are allowed to do technical and training jobs, but no
flying. Repairs are made under the-supervision of the Japanese.
3-. Ten men are responsible for technical training, but according; to available in-
formation, the Chinese Communists do not have any established training sohools.
4. During the battle of Ssu-ping-chieh (124-22, 43.11)/,the air force was based
at Tung-hua (12557. 41-41) and Yen-chi, but later moved to Chia-mu-eau.
The Chinese Communists have not made use of Soviet planes because they fear that
such actions would cause considerable international opposition or would instigate
a third world war.
6. it is claimed that all Communist planes have th3 Nationalist emblem, but the
Nationalist Air Force states that only a part of the planes bear this emblem.
