1. A recent flurry of gendarmerie activity in arresting leftists has been
reported on Crete. This, followed by evident preparatory activity by
leftist bendsq, presages early trouble on the island0
2. The Communist leaders Andreas Tzimas and Leonidas StringaaD who were exiled
in the summer of 1946. have recently escaped from the island of Gavdos,
located south of Crete.
3, Leftist subsourees report that the E is sending trusted emissaries to
all guerrilla bands to ensure obedience to orders. This may be true
because of the reported antagonism between MOF .and KIE bands,
