The Outlook for France
a. Approved as amended.
b. Noted the post-mortem on this estimate. In this connection,
General Schow stated that the deficiencies in military intelligence listed
in this post-mortem might be overcome more readily if such reporting
could be done by an assistant attache He also
solicited the assistance of the State Department in making necessary
arrangements for the establishment of such an office and Mr. Cumming
stated he would look into the matter.
c. Noted the validity studies on NIE 22-56, "The Outlook for
France", 10 July 1956, and NIE 71. 2-56, "The Outlook for Algeria",
5 September 1956.
d. Agreed to release this estimate to USIA.

6. Report of Ad Hoc Weapons
System Study Committee
9 August 1957
General Bull outlined the nature of the Committee's approach
to this problem, various of the questions encountered in the course of
their study and the reasons for the specific recommendations made in
the report. After discussing various aspects of this. matter in. con-
siderable detail the members noted the report and approved the
recommendations of the Committee, subject to the insertion of
"possible" before "use" in the first line of recommendation No. 3 and
the addition of a subparagraph (e) in recommendation No. 4 to read: ;
"Determine the security implications". It was also agreed that General
Bull should act as Chairman of the "Soviet Weapons Requirements
Committee" established under the recommendations, and that this
group should proceed in the light of comments by the IAC members
and report back to the IAC no later than 31 October.

United States Air Force, as Chairman of the Guided Missile Intelli-
gence Committee (GMIC), to be effective l October.
The members also discussed certain aspects of the
Syrian situation.
