Activities during F~' 1963 a. No special reports were published by the Working Group during 11Y 1963. b. During the past year the Working Group has sought to rede- fine the scope and content of the Semiannual Report. The Working Group has inveeti3ated possible ways to facilitate the production of the Semiannual Report while at the same time keeping it responsive to the needs of the intelligence com- munity. Ry the and of PT 1963 the EIC had agreed, in principle, that the year-end issue of the Semiannual Report should be shortened. Firm proposals for realizing this objective are being prepared by the Working Group for discussion at the next meeting of the MCC. The feasibility of automating the large project table of the S aiann*tal Report is being Investigated. Finally, Cuba and Yugoslavia have been removed from the list of underdeveloped countries included in the S 3 aTmua3 Report. 2. Evaluation of the Role of the World Group a. The Working Group has continued both to produce Biweekly and Semiannual Reports and to act as an inter-agency forum for the exchange and evaluation of the Sine-Soviet Bloc economic, military, socio-political and other Bloc Initiatives in Free World. underdeveloped countries. b. A certain time lag is inevitable in the preparation of the publications of the Working Group because of the need to achieve proper coordination. It is believed, however, that the time required to produce these publications has been reduced as far as possible without sacrificing quality. 3? Future Program of the ynjm Group The Working Group plans to pursue its work along present lines subject to the possible changes noted in 2, b.
