ECONOMIC INTELLIGENCE COMMITTEE
MEMORANDUM FOR: Chairman, EIC Subcommittee on Petroleum
SUBr ECT: Future Activities of the Subcommittee
1. It is the desire of the Economic Intelligence Committee that
the Subcommittee on Petroleum reactivate and continue its operations
for at least one year. At the end of one year a determination will be
made whether or not the further continuation of the subcommittee will
serve a useful purpose in the EIC structure.
2. The principal purpose of the subcommittee for the next year
will be to provide a forum for briefings and discussions, for identifi-
cation of finished reports available, and research planned or underway,
and for keeping interested members of the intelligence community
current on important developments in the foreign petroleum .field.
Membership on the subcommittee should be flexible in the sense that
member agencies will be in-vi.ted to send their operating experts to
participate in discussions with the regular members.
3. While no limitation is imposed on the number of meetings, it
is desired that at least four meetings be held by 30 September 1967.
Subcommittee minutes will be prepared and circulated in the usual
n canner but it is not anticipated that the subcommittee will produce
any reports.
4. If the activities of the subcommittee are continued after one
year, the current Subcommittee Terms of Reference, dated
17 September 1958, will be reviewed and revised to provide for the
