Meetingsi, Last meetingo February 1961
Activities during FI' 1965
In recezat yearsa CIA has done an increasing share of the economic
intelligence research on the civilian machinery industries of the Communist
countries. There has been little or no need for subcommittee action on
routine matters such as agreed basic statistics and the xeview of substa.ntiere
reports. There is little justification to maintain the subcommittee on a stand-
by basis to meet potential problems that seldom arise or that can be equally
well handfed by less formal coordination.
The Subcommittee Chairman believes that a realistic appraises! of
current responsibilities for ecanomic intelligence on industrial machinery
within the community strongly suggests that the subcommittee has outlived.
its usefulness and concurs in the DOD recommendation that this subcom-
mittee be abalished,
