1. EIC-R-18, "Vulnerability of the East German Economy to Western
Countermeasures"
The Assistant Secretary for European Affairs has expressed his appre-
ciation for the cooperation of the intelligence community in preparing this
report and feels that it will serve as a valuable guide for the continuing
study of possible countermeasures which might be developed for use against
the Soviet Zone. He also expressed the hope that the community will con-
tinue to maintain its interest in this area and will keep State Department

. The EIC approved the nomination of Mr. William F. Wellington, Chemical
