ANNOUNCEMENTS:
1. The Acting Chairman introduced Lt. Col. Robert A.. Henderson,
the Department of the Air Force representative, who was attending his
first EIC meeting.

2. The Working Group draft of EIC-R14-S11, "Sino-Soviet Bloc
Economic Activities in Underdeveloped Areas, 1 January through
30 June 1961", will be distributed to EIC representatives on 10 August.
An EIC meeting to review and approve this draft report is tentatively
scheduled for 1000 hours on Tuesday, 15 August 1961, in Room 1121,
Temporary M Building.
3. The Secretariat is preparing an Annual Report to the USIB of
the Economic Intelligence Committee covering activities during Fiscal
Year 1961. The draft report will be sent to the Committee for its
approval about the middle of August.
4. The Acting Chairman noted that the annual survey listing.com-
bining internal and external economic research projects on the Sino-
Soviet Bloc and on selected non-Bloc areas is now in reproduction .and
will be disseminated during mid-August.
5. The minutes of the EIC meeting of 6 July 1961 (EIC-M-91)
were approved.
CONSIDERATION OF EIC -Rii8-S2, "VULNERABILITY OF THE EAST
GERMAN ECOMMY TO WESTERN COUNTERMEASURES"
6. Discus sion: The Acting Chairman noted that EIC -R18 -S2 was
designed to ewe and interpret developments in the vulnerability of
the East German economy that have occurred since the original report
on the subject was issued in December 1960. The draft report was
reviewed on a page-by-page basis and a number of changes and modi-
fications were suggested and accepted,
7, Action: The EIC approved ETC-R18-S2, and the Working
Group was instructed to incorporate the revisions which had been
agreed upon. The editors and the EIC IS will make whatever additional
editorial changes are considered necessary. The EIC approved the
