When translated, it reads "Directorate of Aero-Meteorological Service". The Directorate of Aero-Meteorological Service prints the long-range weather forecasts on paper in the necessary quantity. These forecasts are classified Secret, and sent to Air Army Hqs by military couriers, or what the Soviets call "Sekretnaya Pochta" (Secret Post)0 Such mail is always addressed to the chief of the meteorological service of the various headquarters concerned. That is to say, the Air Army Hqs receives enough copies to supply each subordinate Corps, Division and Regiment. The same means of communication is followed in each case down to the Regiment level. In time of war, it will also be found in the Air Divisions. Whenever an abreviation "AMS" is written, the unit to which this AMS belongs will also be indicated. The upper air observations are made with the aid of pilot balloons, radio- sondes and air observers. In the, briefing of pilots of conventional aircraft, prior to flights of 30,000 feet altitude or higher, weather forecasts were always given.
