The title of the central weather service is "GUAMS VVS". When translated,
it reads "Directorate of Aero-Meteorological Service".
The Directorate of Aero-Meteorological Service prints the long-range
weather forecasts on paper in the necessary quantity. These forecasts
are classified Secret, and sent to Air Army Hqs by military couriers, or
what the Soviets call "Sekretnaya Pochta" (Secret Post)0 Such mail is
always addressed to the chief of the meteorological service of the various
headquarters concerned. That is to say, the Air Army Hqs receives enough
copies to supply each subordinate Corps, Division and Regiment. The same
means of communication is followed in each case down to the Regiment level.

AMS (Aero-Meteorological Station) is in the OATB (separate Air Technical
Battalion) in Air Corps, in Air Army and higher. In time of war, it
will also be found in the Air Divisions. Whenever an abreviation "AMS"
is written, the unit to which this AMS belongs will also be indicated.
The upper air observations are made with the aid of pilot balloons, radio-
sondes and air observers.
In the, briefing of pilots of conventional aircraft, prior to flights of
30,000 feet altitude or higher, weather forecasts were always given.
Pilots of jet fighters were not
exposed to such a briefing as they were not called upon to fly at such
altitudes at that time, ?
