The original city of ?rsk is very old and it is located on the southeast side of the Ural River. There are no industrial plants in this part of the city. AJ..l of the industrial buildings in Qrsk are located in a new part of the city, on the northwest side of the river and northwest of the old city. The two parts of the city are connected by a single maa;n street, over which a streetcar provides public transportation. About midway on the south side of the road between the oil refinery and the a -- Th was ere nickel plant there was a large saw mill (51-1~-3QN~58-32-50E). large brickyard located about one half mile southeast (51-1~F-lON~58-33-3) of the saw mill. The built-up section of Nova Orsk along the north-south railroad track due east of the OCF~M plant contained mainly wooden houses and there were several lunchrooms along the main street that traverses this section. 7. The built-up area (51-1~F-3ON/58-28-30E) due west of the OCDM plants and southwest of-the xubetlya River contained modern brick apartment buildings. 8. The built-up area (51-13-2oN/~8-30-30E), about one half mile south of the OCDM plants, which is bisected by the main road from Maksay, contained all new six-story-brick apartment houses. PC~rI~ a,~mp~ q. There were three POW camps for men and one POW camp for t~ermax~ women in Novo Orak. The largest camps, known as the Upper Camp (51-1~-55N/58-29-20E) and the Lower Camp (51-1~+-50N~58-29-25E), were located between the highway and' the railroad tracks about one half mile northwest of the OCDNi buildings. The Lower Camp had a capacity of about two thousand PEnta who were all specialists employed in Orsk. The Upper Cazpp had a capacity of about 1500 Pf7Ws. 10. The POW camp for German women was located about one mile east northeast from the nickel works (51-15-55N/58-36-05E), and. it contained about one thousand prisoners. These women risoners received the same treatment as the men although it appeared that the facilities were slightly better than they were in t e P camp for men. 12. In old Orsl~, the governor lived in a mansion in the park area west and north of the two main streets (51-12-20N/58-3~--?OE). The administrative buildings for the Orsk area were also located in this general park area. 16. A pri~~n for Soviet political prisoners was located across the street from the park at the junction of the main road northeast with the main northwest street in old 4rs.k (51-12-25N~58-3~--15E). 17. 'T'here were prosperous farms located in the general area southeast of old Orsk and. north of the Reka Or.
