The garage contained a small machine shop with several lathes and milling machines and a blacksmith shop. The machine shop occasionally produced parts to repair tractor and. farm machinery. Infrequently, some parts were obtained from Petropavlovsk The machine tractor station repaired tractors, seeding drills, discs11, plows, combines, and mowers. Normally, approximately ten tractors would be under repair at any one time. Most of the tractors, as well as other farm machinery, required extensive repairs, especially after each harvest. Storage facilities for oil, lubricants, and gasoline were nearby. They were kept out in the open and were not covered even during the severe - weather. All machinery and tractors were of Soviet origin and were in 50X1 50X1 50X1 50X1 50X1 50X1 The grain elevators in Voznesenka, as well as in neighboring kolkhozes, were small. They were usually built to satisfy only the needs of each kolkhoz. Most of the grain was loaded onto wagons and Zis trucks in the field during the harvest and transported to grain storage warehouses located at railroad stations. From the warehouses the grain was shipped by rail to all parts of the USSR. In 1940, when a record crop was harvested, much of the grain was piled in the open fields and later spoiled. Principal crops raised at Voznesenka were wheat, oats, and potatoes. 1+. A large tractor factory, operra.tl.ng 211. hours daily, was located on the road fromVoznesenka t- Chelyabinsk . Another tractor factory was located midway between Petropavlovsk -.indAkmolinsk t.n the village of Kokschetav.5%7 Kokschetav was also the location of a potato and grain alcohol refinery. 5? The sketch below shows only the center of the town of Makinsk. In 1911 Makinsk had approximately 2,000 population. Its main streets were lightly gravelled while all others were dirt.
