OF PAGES 5 REFERENCES: 50X1 The following is a listing of points of interest at the J. Stalin Steel plant ih Labedy. (See sketch page 5) some of the raw materials used in this plant came from plants in,Eiblag. the labor force of this plant 6,000 workers; there were three shifts working 24 hours a day, six days a week, and a skeleton crew worked on Sunday. Distances and dimensions are approximate unless otherwise stated. No further information was known 1. Rail Line. Double track European standard gauge. 2. Bridge. Steel and wood construction, 40m long x 10m wide. For pedestrians' use only. This bridge spanned railroad tracks point #1. 3. Building. Railroad stop. White brick, 40m x 20m x 8m high with tarpaper covered gable roof. 4. Road. Asphalt, 14m wide, in good condition. 5. State Industrial School (Panstwowa Szkola Przemyslowa). There were about 24 wooden barracks in the school area. Use of area after this time unknown. 6. Fence. Meshed wire, 2.20m high, topped with barbed wire. Enclosed plant areaeoqhich was three ion long and varied in width from 600m to 1500m. The west border of factory area was adja- cent to the Gliwicki Canal. 7. Gliwicki Canal. (same as point 2, page 4.) Formerly called 'Adolf .i Hitler. Canal was about 40 in. wide. 8. Railroad line (Same as point I, Page 4-) 8A. Railroad bridge over Gliwicki Canal. Steel construction, dimensions unknown. This bridge was about 800. m, from plant area. 8B. Rail spur. Three tracksoEuropean standard gauges entering plant area. 9. New barracks area. Under construction in 1949. About six wooden barracks were completed, others were undergoing finishing touches. Number of buildings unknown. 10. Road. Asphalt, 14 m. wide, in good condition. Road led into plant area. 11. Gate. Wire mesh, 8m. wide, 2.20 m. high. An Industrial Guard armed with a carbine was observed at entrance. 12. Guard shack. Brick, 30 m. x 20 in. x 4 m., with deck type tar- paper covered roof. This was a pass control office. 13. Building. 13-story camouflaged brick, 60 m. x 6 m. Building contained central telephone exchange and plant offices. 14. Two wooden buildings. 40 m. x 20 in. x 5 m., with tarpaper 50X1 covered gable toot". production,Wrikild for small arms parts was accomplished in this building. 15. Building. Brick, 150 m. x 50 m. x 8 m., with gable roof. Steel cutting tools, such as knives bits)and drillswere 50X1 produced in this building. 16. Building. Brick, 100 in. x 20 m. x 18 m. 50X1 glass covered, saw-tooth type roof. Steel tempering was done in this building. 17. Building. Brick, 300 m. x 50 in. x 14 in., with gable 50X1 roof. This building was a machine shop. Machines known to be in this buildings were lathes, milling machines, metal 50X1 rp_lan7s, grinding machines, and boring machines. some of the machines came from factories in Dabrowa Gornicza (N 50-20, E 19-12). 18. Buildings. About 15 brick buildings, 300 m. x 60 m. x 20 in. 50X1 building had a saw-tooth type glass covered roof. Steel girders for the construction of bridges were made here. All these buildings had traveling cranes. 19. Building. Three-story brick, 200 x 50 in. with tarpaper covered gable roof. CONFIDENTIAL - 3 - Work shops. Reinforced concrete, 200 x 80x 20m. Roofs believed to be .saw-tooth type Aaass covered. ,There were about 15 such workshops in this area. All had travelin cranes. Shops contained foundries and rolling mills; electric stoves were made here. Buildings. There were about 15. buildings of various sizes In this area belonging to the army. they were undergoing renovation for army use. at the present time (1954), military tanks (type unknown) are being built in these buildings. the tanks which were used in 16th Mechanized Division, 28 Regiment) came from this steel plant and that the production of tanks by this plant had begun in 1951. 22. Bridge over Gliwicki Canal. Steel and wood construction 20- ton capacity. 23. Flood gates. Concrete, .180 m. wide. Flood gates were 80 in. apart. 24. Building. Brick, 30 in. x 20 in. x 8 m., with tarpaper covered gable roof. This building contained the Mechanism for opera- ting flood gates. 25. Labedy Railroad Station. Brick, 60 m. x 4o m. x 8 m., with tarpaper covered gable roof. 26. Gliwicki Canal. Loading and unloading of ships was-accomplished in this area. Numerous railroad spurs were located along east Bide of canal.
