During an air combat training flight, one of the pilots
of the Air Force squad. twico attacked his supposed tenemy.'t
Did the airman hit the traget ? The camera fitted to the machine
gun should have given the answer to that question. After the
flight, however, it was found that this instrument was not
operating. Officer Surkov undertook to eliminate the defect
in the instrument. In a short time, the airman had solved the
problem.
Other soldiers, too, have advanced many valuable innow
vation proposals designed to find successful solutions to the
problems before the squad. Many problems of economy in fuel,
time, consumption of materials, spare parts, etc, have been solved
successfully. For example, Nikolayev, an aircraft specialist,
built a stripping device which enabled the troops servicing com-
bat planes to speed up the dismantling of the strut assembly of
the landing gear while carrying out adjustment operations.
Officer Zarin introduced five innovation proposals in one
year. He improved the starting command post, designed a device
for boring openings of the main assemblies of the plane, did
much work on the maintenance of aircraft equipment in top condi-
tion. Airman Nov.itskiy was able tb cut down considerably on the
time spent by repairmen in riveting operations on aircraft by
changing the structure of the handle of the pneumatic hammer.

month. The commander has succeeded in guiding; their activity.
On his initiative, technical conferences of soldier-innovators
are held. regularly in which advanced experience is thoroughly
summarized and disseminated, and plans for future work are dis-
cussed.
