Byrd, Jr. (Indep., Va. ). We scheduled the briefing for 3:30 p.m. this afternoon in the Minority Leader's office. Mr. Liebengood later called and said that Senators Barry M. Goldwater (R., Ariz.) and Birch Bayh (D., Ind.) will also attend. to ask for the clearances of Guy McConnell, Jim a en au-m, and Pete Bonner, all on the staff of the Senate Appropriations Committee, which I gave to him. 8. LIAISON Received a call from Ellen Williams, in the office of Representative John Burton (D., Calif.), who asked if we could provide the Congressman a map of the Middle East. I told her I felt sure we had such a map and would be glad to send it to her, but if I ran into any problems I would be back in touch. 9. I I LEGISLATION Called Dave Barrett, at the Department of Justice, to check on my request for a transcript of Attorney General Griffin Bell's testimony at the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Civil and Constitutional Rights hearing on H. R. 10400, the FBI charter legislation, held on 28 February 1978. Mr. Barrett said he had not received a transcript, but would notify me when he does receive it. 10. LEGISLATION Talked with Dave Barrett, at the Department of Justice, who asked if I had received his proposed language for S. 1845, the polygraph bill, which he mailed on 15 February. Since I had not, we made arrangements to have a courier pick up a copy tomorrow. STAT .11. LEGISLATION Called George Howe, at the Civil Service. HEARING Dan Childs, Senate Select Committee on Intelligence staff, called to say Chairman Birch Bayh (D., Ind.) would chair the covert action hearing on 2 March and that Senator William D. Hathaway (D., Maine) would ask about the covert action study requested last year. STAT 30. I referred her to the DOCEX Project at the Library of Congress. 18. LIAISON Sent via courier to Chairman Birch Bayh (D., Ind.), Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, Chairman Edward P. Boland (D., Mass.), House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, Chairman George H. Mahon (D., Texas), House Appropriations Committee, and Chairman Warren Magnuson (D., Wash.), Senate Appropriations Committee, a 1 March 1978 letter from the Director regarding a sensitive Agency project. 19. LIAISON Received a call from Kathy Taylor, Senate Foreign Relations Committee staff, who had a classified package to send back to the Agency. I arranged for a courier to pick it up.. 20. EMPLOYMENT REQUEST Received a call from ~=J, in the office of Representative John J. Flynt (D. , Ga.), who asked for information about the Agency's Summer Graduate Studies Program. I gave him some general information about the program but told him that the deadline for this year's program was 1 January 1978. Later in the day, I was informed by Rosann, Office of Personnel, that called the Director of Personnel's office and that office is sending an application form for full-time employment with the Agency. in the office of Representative James J. Blanchard (D., Mich.), who ___1 asked who the Congressman could write to at the Agency to check into the status of a Privacy Act inquiry for a constituent. I told her to address the letter to Lyle L.
