(Unclassified - SF) LIAISON Received a call from Robert Foust, in the office of Senator Claiborne Pell (D., R.I.), concerning his receiving copies of the "International Energy Biweekly Statistical Review. " He said his assistant had called a couple of weeks ago and requested that he be put on our list to receive these publications but to date he hasn't received any copies. After checking with I I in 25X1 JFAC /CSS, office, I explained to himthat we did mueea receive a call from his assistant, Rebecca Hierholzer, on 16 February, but by the time we had gotten the request approved it was too late for him to receive the first issue but that I would be glad to send him a copy of the back issue. He agreed to this and was most appreciative. A copy of the "International Energy Biweekly Statistical Review was mailed to him the following day. 17. (Unclassified - SF) LIAISON Received a call from Ried Edwards, in the office of Representative George Miller (D., Calif.), requesting a copy of the Agency publication entitled "Prospects for Further Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons. The briefing went well and there were no follow-ups. 40.1 I BRIEFING Attended a briefing of Richard Perle and Dorothy Fosdick, staff members on the Senate Governmental Affairs Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, on a white paper by ACDA on verification of SALT II by NFAC/SALT Support. I briefing was outstanding and he diffused any possible controversy . by the manner in which he discussed the Agency's input to the paper with Perle. Boland (D., Mass.), House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, Chairman George H. Mahon (D., Texas), House Appropriations Committee, and Chairman Warren Magnuson (D., Wash.), Senate Appropriations Committee, a 1 March 1978 letter from the Director regarding a sensitive Agency project. 19. I gave him some general information about the program but but told him that the deadline for this ear's program was 1 January 1978. Later in the day, I was informed by Office of Personnel, that called the Director of Personnel's office and that office is sending Ian application form for full-time employment with the Agency. 21. Blanchard (D., Mich.), who asked who the Congressman could write to at the Agency to check into the status of a Privacy Act inquiry for a constituent. (Unclassified - RSG) LIAISON Called Jackie Hess, House Select Committee on Assassinations staff, to indicate that we had available material for review at Headquarters in response to the Committee request of 21 February 1978. The Committee request had sought a response no later than today. 2. (Unclassified - ABS) LIAISON Cathy, in the office of Representative Harold C. Hollenbeck (R., N. J.), called regarding obtaining for a constituent MKULTRA-related material which was mentioned in a newspaper article. I gave her the proper mailing address for our Information and Privacy Coordinator. 3. (Unclassified - THW) LIAISON I spoke with Tom Latimer, Staff Director, House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, on several occasions regarding the Committee's hearing on CIA and the media scheduled for 15 March. The conversations were, for the most part, centered around changing the date of the hearing from 15 March to some later date. After an initial agreement on a changed date, he called back and asked to switch back to the original date. 4. (Internal Use Only - THW) LIAISON I called Bill Miller, Staff Director, Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, and asked him how Senator Henry L. Bellmon (R. , Okla.) had reacted to our excisions with respect to the Panama debate. He said Senator Bellmon appeared to be relenting somewhat from his demands and felt that in the end the Senator would probably go along with the deletions. He said the material is scheduled to come up on the floor at 4:00 p. m. on Thursday and if no problems it will then go to the printer. 5. (Internal Use Only - THW) LIAISON Paul Powell, in the office of Representative Bill Young (R., Fla.), called asking for unclassified material with respect to the Soviet military buildup in Cuba. He said Representative Young planned to participate in a joint resolution against the buildup. After talking with C/CSS/ 25X1 NFAC, I told Powell we had no unclassified material and said we would be willing to come up and brief the Congressman on the subject. I also indicated to him to the best of our knowledge there was very little in the way of a Soviet buildup. A briefing was scheduled for tomorrow at 10:30 a. m.
