with the Office of Public Affairs, I gave 1dm the date of 11 October 1977.

to review the Pike-Committee boxes which are marked "CIA Numbers
8 /9 /19 and 11. " F iannigan will come out to the Agency to review these
boxes on 19 June.

tell me that Chairman Edward P. Boland (D. , Mass.) wants either
Latimer or Mike O'Neil, Chief Counsel, to review the package of intelligence
reports on the Cuban involvement in the Katangan invasion of Zaire. The
objective of this exercise is to identify the "best" documents and isolate
them for subsequent retrieval when and if the Chairman would need ,them.
I said I would look into this and get back to him.. I asked Latimer what
the purpose of the Tuesday, 20 June, briefing of the Committee on SS-16
and SS-20 missiles was. He told me that it vas .for the background of the
members and staff due to his (Latim.er's) belief that eventually the Committee
would be asked to authorize new and/or additional funds for means of
collection and that the Committee should be well apprised of the state of
our knowledge ability `o.f these two missiles.
