HET Approved For Release 2004 - 800060016-0 Journal - Office of Legislative Counsel Page 2 Friday - 27 October 1978 6, EMPLOYMENT REQUEST Received a call from Miss Paris, in the office of Representative James H. Quillen (R., Tenn.), requesting three clerical and three professional. applications be sent to her attention. OLC Registry was advised. 7. LIAISON Called Jon Iolstine, on the staff of the Subcommittee on Asian and Pacific Affairs, House International Relations Committee, to report on nn earlierinquiry about possible deployment of a Soviet air landing divison on Sino-Soviet border. Mr. Holstine had indicated there was such a report in the "Defense Foreign Affairs Daily," dated 2 October 1978. I told Mr. Holstine that the opinion of our experts was that no such deployment had taken place. 25X1 8. LIAISON Received a call from Mike Epstein, Senate Select Committee on Intelligence staff, who wanted to clarify newspaper accounts on the extent of the Committee's investigation of the death of John Paisley. Epstein indicated the only two areas the Committee was looking into were whether there are any counterintelligence ramifications and whether CIA did anything that was not routine in this investigation. He said he had tentatively concluded the answer was no on both points. Regarding his request for briefings on DDO collection regarding human rights, I explained there waste o central DDO focus on this problem and Epstein indicated the staff would be happy to hear about individual country examples instead of an overall picture. He suggested that they be briefed on three examples, one Soviet Bloc. country, one Latin America country and another Third world country. 25X1 Approved For Release 2004/08/30 : CIA-RDP81 M00980R001800060016-0
