Approved For Release 2004/09/03 : CIA-RDP81 M00980R001400110086-1 OFFICE OF LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL Tuesday - 14 February 1978 1. I LEGISLATION Spoke with Mr. James. Robinson, at the Department o Justice, regarding the Department's proposed amendment to our proposed legislation regarding the Director's firearms authority. Mr. Robinson indicated the Department felt strongly that the limitation which it was proposing regarding the Director's authorit'~? to designate certain Agency personnel for firearms protection, was viewed as an important limitation on this authority, and that, in the absence of strong argument to the contrary, the Department would insist that this limitation remain in the proposal. Mr. Robinson did agree, however, that the Department would concur in a further change.to its proposal to make clear that the authority to designate personnel for firearms protection could extend to an acting Director or Deputy Director. cc: O/DDCI Ex. sec.
