LEGISLATION Called the S ubcornmittee on Legislation and National Security of the House Government Operations Committee to check on the status of H. R. 12171, the "federal Accounting and Auditing bill of 1978." 1 was informed that one day of hearings has already been held on 16 May at which time Comptroller General Staats testified; I was further informed that the Subcommittee has scheduled another day of hearings on 20 June at which time witnesses from OMB and Justice Department are scheduled to testify. 16. 1 1 LEGISLATION Called the Subcommittee on Civil and Constit;ut-ional Rights of the House Judiciary Committee to check on the status of H. R. 10400, an "1-'BI Charter". bill. I was informed that no action is scheduled on the bill, but the Subcommittee hopes to have another clay of hearings later on in the summer. LIAISON Talked with Mike Epstein, Senate Select Committee on Intelligence staff, and set up an inter view for him with DDO employee on 5 June and DDO employee Ion 6 June. 18. LIAISON Accompanied 25X1 SA/DGI, to a briefing of 13i11 Miller, Staff Director, 6ena to e ec Committee on Intelligence, and IE:d Levine, of the Committee staff, regarding the discovery in the Moscow Embassy of Soviet electronic surveillance equipment. II showed the staff members pictures 25X1 o t~ equipment and embassy setting and provided a detailed chronology of the incident. It was agreed the same topic would be presented by the Director at his briefing of the Committee on 7 June. Miller also asked again that reports regarding Cuban involvement in Zaire be delivered to the Committee first thing Monday morning. Miller also told me he would like to speak to analysts on Afghanistan regarding the recent coup and this was set up for the morning of 8 June. 19.
