Dear George,
I have reviewed the suggestions for further changes in
the NITs proposed by your staff.
As you know, we have raised the priority of the ques-
tions dealing with theater nuclear forces With
regard to the other substantive suggestions, it seems to me
on balance that they are covered by more generalized formula-
tions already on the current list, and that to introduce
such a degree of specificity would not be appropriate in the
NITS' present form.
As mentioned at the PRC(I) meeting, when the NITs are
next reviewed we have in mind adjusting the categories to
make the current topics more specific and sharply focused.
At that time we will again invite your suggestions for new
and revised short-term questions.
Meanwhile, I am passing the interests expressed in
your memo on to our analysts so they can take them into
account in current analytic production.
