1. The constant purges, ?Breforms"i and strict control over the country all go to
show that Rumania is get morel, being industrialised but is also being completely
militarised by the Soviets. The omnipresent Soviet military installations are
nute testimony to that effect, _
2. Aviation installations are still being built, in spite of the large and numerous
airfields which already dot the country in all directions. Airplane hangars are
now being built on the military airfield of Babel (soar Campina), and subterranean
hangars near Jansa (region of the Danube, near the algarlan fre?tier)0 The old
civil airport.of Turnishor (near Sibiu) has been eniarged and transformed. into a
military airfield, An observation center has boon placed on Mount tkaul (region of
Sinaia) for the use of Soviet aviation. Near it, there is a platform for landing
helicopters. The center is equipped with radio sending apparatus. Though it was
formerly a favorite spot for ezoursienists, the mountain is now forbidden territory.
There is a soheel for pilots at Strajnic, near Ttrgusher (region of Prahova).
3. Two Soviet divisions are in cantonments in the woods of the Vales Rasneavei (region
of Bragov). The divisions are quartered is wooden barracks. Their camp is eonnested,
by spoeiaL railway tracks with the nearest main lines. More alad more, Soviet
troops occupy the chief strategic points in Rumania. They have command posts at
aslati, Iasi, X4 11a and Bucharest. It is now almost impossible to toll Soviet
and Sian troops apart, from their. external appearance.
h. The largest oil fuel depot that the Soviet Army has in Rumania is lecatid at Briila.
On the railway between Sibiu and Rtonieul Tt l.eea, about five hundred actors 25x1th
of Dae;ti, a subterranean storage for oil fuel is being built0

5.
Pastories are also being taken under military sontrol. At Vales Sadului, in the
region of Sibiu, a big hydroeIectrio factory is now under construction. It is
entirely under military oontrol, as is the road serving it,.. The factories of the
Industria Aeronautics Romiant are now being turned over, increasingly, for the
oonstrustion at tanks and..araored cars. The I. G. Priaiu factories, at Sinaia,
have turned ever large workshops for the production and repair of armaments, ineludini
artillery and tubes for various proJecti1es, The latter are afterward charged at
Pabarask,(Transylvania), where there are pe'ader mills. More than a thousand am
work in these ta,attoriee.
6. Other civilian fac* ,ss have been adapted, &luring the last year, for use in
ailitary manufaot ur*. Among these are the 1, Ranget factories, of Arad, near
`ke Bungarian frontier,.whish make machine guns; the metallurgical factories of
Cugir, near Alba-Iulia (Murash region); the Reshitza factories at Baia Mare,
Transylvania, wbiob make arms of the Soviet models. These area are not, for the
asont, being Issued to the Ri anian Any, but are exported to tht north.
7. OR taduskiosul Mountain (Sinaia), s4rveys are being made for a new road, which
will carry heavy artillery.
8. In general, it may be said that Soviet control of all phases of Rumanian life and
production is by this time so strict that it practically makes the entire country
one big factory for Soviet use.
