1, At the Chemische Werke Buna-Schkopau repairs to the power plant were
finished about the middle ofAugust and the power supply again became
adequate. More men are being taken on because two new shops have been
added in the northern part of the works The nu ber of employees will be
raised from the present 18,140 to 19,200.
2, The -,, w shops will produce chiefly heat-resistant fibrous m .terialss,
Productic. cannot begin for about two months because nozzle pipes are
lacking. These cannot be manufactured in the Soviet ,Zone because the
equipanect has mostly been dismantled. There is also a lack, of necessax y
metals: platinum, rhodium, nickel and vanadium, according to reports The new
materials to be produced are said to be Soviet developments of silicon
compounds, already have been tested. However, difficulties exist
over materials, mainly from a shortage of aluminium oxide,
3a Carbide production is continually coming up against difficulties because
not enough pure counter-electrodes are provided. For the present, however,
these difficulties are overcome,
