The Chemische Werke Buns, at, Schkopau,. fell short in production. of carbide during
July .1953 with the result that the rubber plant and the alcohol division were
unable to operate part of the time. There were frequent power interruptions which
caused stoppages of production. The transformers had to be shut off at times.,
because of the sharp drops in the, voltage.
2 In spite of these difficulties, 18,000 kilos of Nitropendan were produced and
shipped off to the US. .uri.n, the month, and 25,000 kilos of phosphorus
were manufactured. The production of iohlordiethylsulphite was about 10,000
kilos higher than of,pho ,>horus. The production of potassium cyanide (Cyankali)
runs currently about 8,000 kilos.
Workers in these departments made renewed protests because their milk allotment
was reduced to one-fourth liter per day. By order of the Soviet administrator
they are now allowed one-half liter per day.
The Gummiwerk Riesa fell about 40 percent ui 1 x its production quota in the last
quarter. Shortage of rubber was not the only reason; there was also a shortage
of cord.
