MEMORANDUM FOR: OMMANDING GENERAL, ARMY SERVICE FORCES.
Att ntion: Mobilization Division.
Subject: Funds for Conversion of Existing Facilities at
\ Camp Ritchie, Maryland.
1. Pacific Milit ry Intelligence Research Section, a section of the
Military Branch, MIS, been transferred to Camp Ritchie, Maryland for ad-
ministration and discipl ne. Operational control of the activities of this
organization remains mit A. C. of S., G-2, MD.G.S.
2. Pacific Military telligence Researeh Section which will eventually
consist of a minimum of 33 ficers and 67 enlisted men has been transferred te
its present location because of the lack of facilities and space required by
so large e group.
3. It was initially contemplated to establish this activity at Fort Hunt,
? Virginia, but, because the enginers, estimates for construction costs called
for an expeniture of $86,000 thid\plan was abandoned.
4. At its present location til? required working space would be available
by the conversion of a warehouse at Camp Ritchie. Estimates made by the post
engineer for the conversion of this building call for a total expenditure of
$7,967.00. A copy of the estimate is\attached. The building to be converted
is a permanent structure which existed on this post when taken over from the
Maryland National Guard. '
5. Because of the urgency of the operational functions carried on by the
Pacific Military Intelligence Research Sea,t?ion and in view of the fact that
Joining Instructions for this personnel are,already out and they are expected
to reach.the post by 9 September 1944, it id requested that action be taken to
expedite the allocation of funds so that the post engineer can begin immediate
construction.
