SIGNIFICANCE: THIS BRIEFING BOARD DEPICTS THE CONSTRUCTION OF A THIRD RAIL ALONG SEGMENTS OF THE HA NOI/PING-HSIANG METER GAUGE RAIL LINE NORTH OF KEP, THEREBY PROVIDING A DUAL GAUGE CAPACITY. 2. MISSION READOUT: REVEALS NO STANDARD GAUGE ROADBED CONSTRUCTION OR RELATED ACTIVITY ON THE HA NOI/PING-HSIANG RAIL LINE. ON INTERMITTENT COVERAGE FROM 2128N 10623E TO 2124N 10617E, REVEALS CONSTRUCTION PREPARATIONS FOR THE ADDITION OF A THIRD RAIL. THE RAILBED HAS BEEN WIDENED AND IMPROVED, AND STANDARD GAUGE TIES HAVE REPLACED THE SHORT TIES USED FOR METER GAUGE TRACK. THERE IS NO EVIDENCE OF A CONSTRUCTED THIRD RAIL. PROBABLE RAILS ARE OBSERVED PILED AT UTM XJ404714. REVEALS A THIRD RAIL OBSERVED ON INTERMITTENT COVERAGE OF THE RAIL LINE FROM 213ON 10625E TO 2126N 10620E, PERMITTING UTILIZATION OF THE TRACK BY BOTH STANDARD AND METER GAUGE RAILCARS.
