THIS BRIEFING BOARD DEPICTS A HEAVILY DAMAGED AND UNSERVICEABLE
RAILROAD AND HIGHWAY BRIDGE ON ROUTE 1A OVER THE SONG THUONG (RIVER)
ON THE WEST EDGE OF BAC GIANG.
2. COLLATERAL:
BRIDGE TO BE HEAVILY DAMAGED AND UNSERVICEABLE. TWO SPANS AND TWO
SHORING PIERS ON THE NORTHEAST END OF THE BRIDGE HAVE BEEN DROPPED INTO
THE RIVER. A FERRY AND TWO PONTOON SECTIONS ARE OBSERVED NORTHWEST OF
THE BRIDGE AND SEVERAL PONTOON SECTIONS ARE OBSERVED SOUTHEAST OF THE
BRIDGE (NOT SHOWN ON GRAPHIC).

PRINCIPAL HIGHWAY BETWEEN HA NOI AND THE SOUTHEAST CHINA BORDER REGION.
STRIKE DATA REPORTS THAT THE BRIDGE WAS STRUCK AT LEAST SIX TIMES IN
APRIL 1966 AND AGAIN ON 05 MAY 1966. TWENTY-NINE USAF AIRCRAFT STRUCK
THE TARGET AND EXPENDED THIRTY-EIGHT 3000-POUND GENERAL PURPOSE BOMBS,
EIGHTEEN 750-POUND GENERAL PURPOSE BOMBS, AND FOUR PODS CBU FLARES.
