SIGNIFICANCE: THIS BRIEFING BOARD DEPICTS THE COMPLETED ALIGNMENT OF A NEW ROAD UNDER CONSTRUCTION CONNECTING SAMNEUA AND BAN BAN, LAOS. 2. BACKGROUND: THE HISTORY AND ALIGNMENT OF THE COMPLETED SEGMENTS OF THE ROAD ARE AS FOLLOWS: THE ALIGNMENT OF THE ROAD SOUTHWEST OF SAMNEUA FOLLOWED ROUTE 6 AND EXTENDED SOUTH-SOUTHEAST TO MUANG HAM AT 2019N 10401E (UTM UH- 975474). THE ROAD CONTINUED FROM MUANG HAM FOLLOWING THE ALIGNMENT OF ROUTE 68 TO A POINT 13.5 NM SOUTHWEST OF MUANG HAM AND CONNECTED THE FOLLOWING POINTS: 2016N 10403E (UTM VH006420), 201ON 10355E (u uH863312), 2009N 10355E (UTM UH846298), AND 2011N 10350E (UTM UH793321). THE ROAD CONTINUED SOUTHWEST FOLLOWING THE GENERAL ALIGNMENT OF ROUTE 6 TO 2009N 10349E (UTM UH763297). IT THEN EXTENDED GENERALLY SOUTHWEST FROM ROUTE 6 TO ITS TERMINUS AT 2002N 10342E (UTM UH654161), 29.5 NM SOUTHWEST OF SAMNEUA. 3. MISSION READOUT: REVEALS A CONSTRUCTED FORD ACROSS 25X1 THE NAM NEUN (RIVER) AT 2001N 10343E (UTM UH661152). VEHICLE TRACKS WERE OBSERVED TO EXTEND 0.2 NM SOUTH OF 2002N 10342E TO UI'M UH653157. REVEALS THE ROAD UNDER CONSTRUCTION 25X1 TO EXTEND SOUTH FROM THE FORD TO APPROXIMATELY 1952N 10342E (UTM UG65).983). VEHICLE TRACKS ARE OBSERVED IN THE VICINITY OF THE FORD TO 1957N 10342E (UTM UH638078). REVEALS THE NEW ROAD IN LATE 25X1 STAGES OF CONSTRUCTION EXTENDING SOUTH-SOUTHWEST FROM 1957N 10342E (uTM uG654983) TO THE PREVIOUSLY REPORTED TERMINUS OF ROUTE 61 AT 1950N 10341E (uTM UG636937). VEHICLE TRACKS ARE NOTED EXTENDING NORTHEAST FROM BAN BAN ON ROUTE 61 TO 1947N 10338E (UTM UG577888). A WELL USED TRAIL EXTENDS SOUTHEAST FROM THIS POINT TO A HEAVILY WOODED AREA AT UTM UG583882. ROUTE 61, EXTENDING NORTHEAST FROM ROUTE 7 AT BAN BAN TO ITS JUNCTION WITH THE TERMINUS OF THE NEW ROAD UNDER CONSTRUCTION AT 1950N 10341E, APPEARS TO STILL BE IN DISUSE. ALL UTM COORDINATES ARE TAKEN FROM AMS SERIES L7012, SHEETS 5771 I, II, III, 5770 IV, III, 5872 III, 5871 IV, AND 5769 IV.
