(SAD) This report provides an imagery-derived analysis of FLOGGER G aircraft assigned to PVO Stranyy, USSR. The FLOGGER G, probably a new tactically improved fighter intercep- tor, has a reduced dorsal fin area which apparently makes the FLOGGER G an aerodynamically cleaner version than the FLOGGER B.' Collateral sources indicate that the FLOGGER G also has an improved HIGH LARK Al radar, giving the aircraft an improved air-to-air capability in the low-level clutter environment. The FLOGGER G apparently has greater performance capabili- ties than the FLOGGER B in air-to-air combat at both high and low altitudes.' BASIC DESCRIPTION 2. (SAD) FLOGGER G aircraft assigned to PVO Stranyy have been observed at seven airfields in the USSR (Figure 1). Figure 2 shows the FLOGGER G parking area at Murom Airfield the inset shows a FLOGGER G. (S/D) FLOGGER G were first observed in PVO Stranyy at Murom Airfield when 11 camouflage-painted probable FLOGGER G were present. Eleven con- firmed FLOGGER G were observed there Murom is the PVO center for air technical reorientation and air combat application. This advanced training center prepares pilots to serve as instructors in regiments ultimately destined for operational conversion of new aircraft.? FLOGGER G have been observed at six PVO operational airfields, three of which were converted to FLOGGER G in 1979 and three in 1980. 4. This Yaroslavl/Tunoshnoye is a PVO Stranyy base in the 5. S D) FLOGGER G were observed at Kursk Airfield East L. hen 29 of the 40 FLOGGER observed were identified as G models. This was the first identification of fighter aircraft at this airfield. A new runway and associated airfield facilities had been completed in 1979. Kursk Airfield East has recently been added to PVO Stranyy as an active airfield and is in the Moscow Air Defense District. 6. (S D) Elements of a FLOGGER G regiment were first observed at Minsk/Machulishche Airfield when 21 FLOGGER G were seen. No change to the FLOGGER G unit was observed on subsequent imagery in February, April, and June 1980. Minsk/Machulishche is a PVO Stranyy airfield in the Minsk Air Defense District which supports a FISHPOT regiment. The airfield also supports an LRA BLINDER ASM regi- ment. 7. (S/D) FLOGGER G were first identified at Sovetskaya Gavan/Monino Airfield L_ when 12 of the aircraft were observed. However, FLOGGER had been seen here since October 1979. Subsequent coverage of the airfield has shown a continued increase in FLOGGER G order-of-battle approaching regimental strength. Thirty- eight FLOGGER G were last observed here Sovetskaya Gavan/Monino is in the Khabarovsk Air Defense District. 8. (S D) FLOGGER were observed for the first time at Kupino Airfield when five were present. On subsequent coverage count had increased to 16. The FLOGGER are possibly G models. This airfield normally houses a FISHPOT regiment. Kupino Airfield is the first PVO Stranyy base in the Novosibirsk Air Defense District to receive FLOGGER. 9. S D One FLOGGER G squadron was first observed at Nizhniy Tagil Airfield North- eas when 15 FLOGGER G were seen. Only one FLOGGER has been seen there previously. Nizhniy Tagil Airfield Northeast is in the Sverdlovsk Air Defense District and has supported a FISHPOT regiment. 10. (S/D) With the improved performance of the FLOGGER G over the FLOGGER B, it is expected that as additional PVO fighter regiments are reequipped with FLOGGER, FLOGGER G will be the model received.
