Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2010/03/25: CIA-RDP80T01137A000300040011-2 MEMORANDUM FOR: U.S. Army Corp of Engineers 25X1 ^ THROUGH Deputy Chief, Programs Analysis Division, TSG Chief, Imagery Exploitation Group, NPIC SUBJECT : Review of KH Coverage of Great Lakes Shoreline. 1. As requested at our meeting in late February, we have reviewed the KH coverage available over the sites you selected for your Great Lakes shoreline erosion project. Only one site, Eastlake, Ohio has multiple KH coverage that would permit comparative analysis. Several other sites have.one-time only KH coverage that may provide a base year for the study. 2. Our evaluation of the Eastlake site is that analysis of the Lake Erie shoreline several miles either side of Eastlake, Ohio based on 1966, 1969, and 1972 KH photography appears feasible even though the 1966 photography may be of marginal value due to obliquity. The 1969 and 1972 photography are good enough for comparative analysis. The November 1966 coverage is oblique, clear photography of fair quality. Useable stereo coverage of the Lake Erie shoreline extends from Madison, westward to Willowick, Ohio. The December 1969 coverage is clear photography of fairly good quality and includes stereo coverage of the Lake Erie shoreline from Conneaut to Sandusky, Ohio. The July 1972 coverage is clear photog- raphy of good quality. Stereo coverage of the Lake Erie shoreline extends from a point just west of Fairport Harbor to Lorain, Ohio. (Mono coverage from the aft camera extends the shoreline coverage eastward almost to Madison, Ohio). March 1968photography of the Lake Michigan shoreline from White Lake, Southwar-to-St.- Joseph, Michigan is available on one clear stereo coverage of fair quality. This coverage includes all four sites along the east shore of Lake Michigan (White Lake, Port Sheldon, Glenn and St. Joseph). The shoreline around the White Lake area is ice-free but ice is present at the shoreline at the other three sites. Also available is December 1969 coverage of Lexington, Michigan on hazy stereo photography of fair quality. Cloud cover precludes study of the shoreline south of Lexington.
