Tne HunFarian Oil Industry .(1962/1963)
In 1962 the amount of crude oil produced -,as about 1.6 million tons, this
is a vary little above the figure for 1561. The plan for 1963 is also 1.6 million
tons.
2. There are' 750 oil and gas borings in Hungary those in the southern Danube
val1ey and Trans-Danube, those on the east edge of the "small plain" and in
south Hungary promise to yield good results.
3. Of the wholly new areas which are to .be JOspected in the current year,
the following should be mentioned:- KOTORMANY, on the western frontier of the
country, VASZAR in the "small -plain", the SZENTIVANFA area and SOTONY,
.ZL1ANYM BELEZNA, SAVOLY, NAGYREOS and LABOD in the Danube valley, and finally
TURA, KENGYEL and TISZAVASVAR in the "large plain",
4. At the end of the 2nd Five Year. ?? Plan (196l/65) the Hungarian petroleum
? "industry is scheduled to be. producing 2.2 million tons annually, i.e. about
600,000 tons more than it is producing today.
5. During the first three months of 1963 Hungarian oil-production and transport
suffered badly as a result of the hard winter. According to official reports,
production was about 12% below plan. Arrears can only be made good very slowly
during the course of the year. The new oil-fields in the Hungarian Plain suffered
particularly. The oil found here solidifies at. 30?C. During the cold weather
the oil had to be constantly warmed so that delivery to the refinery in
NYIRBOGDANY was made extremely difficult.
6. Owing to the shortage of transport, several borings in the oilfields in the
southern ZALA had to be closed and the ?plan for export of oil products could.not?
be fulfilled.
7. - Repair of technical installations at the borings is also suffering as a
result of difficulties in delivering parts and components, drills, etc.
Finally there is a shortage of private Cars suitable fnr nrnRR-

country work.
8. In the refinery at ZALAEGERSZEG 400,000 tons bitumen 'alone are produced
annually. Exports from ZALAEGERSZEG are sent by rail to West Germany, among
other countries.
'9. At the present time expansion work is being concentrated on the refinery-
combine at KOMAROM - "KOMAROMI KOOLAJIPARI 1ULLALAT", to which the older =

process of modernisation, are affiliated. This combine is able to process
1.3 million tons annually and when a cracking?plant has been installed, the
amount, will be even greater.
10. The second expansion project is the big refinery at SZASZHALOMBATTA, 32 km
to the south of BUDAPEST, on the right bank of the Danube. When this refinery
has been completed, capacity nill be 3 million tons annually.
11. Of the refineries which existed before the war, the one opened by the
SHELL Co in BUDAPEST-CSEPEL is still producing about 180,00 tons annually,.
but 'hen the SZASZHLLOMBATTA Combine is operating, it will only produce special
products.
12. Supy)lementing Hungary's cp-.m production i in 1963 3 millio tons oil are to
be imported through the pipeline from the Soviet Union.
