Construction design institutions in Minsk in mid-1958 included the following: a. A residential and public buildings design institution (Bel. Gos. Proyekt), located at the corner of Leninskaya and Karla Marksa Streets. b. A design institution for power and transformer stations, high- tension lines, etc. (from. Energo Proyekt) which, in 1958, was transferred from Karla Marksa Street to PL. Svobody (number unknown.) 50X1-HUM c. Since 1955, the institution had designed the following: a. Reinforced Concrete Products Plant (Zavod Zhezobetonniky Izdeliy), one of the largest projects ever undertaken by the institution. Con- struction of the plant was planned to be carried out in three stages, only the first of which was completed in 1957. It was being constructed at a place called Krasnoye Urochischche, which was believed to be lo- cated about six kilometers from the southwestern outskirts of Minsk 50X1-HUM b. Silicate Brick and Building Block Factory (Zavod Silikatnogo Kirpicha i Blokov), designed during 1956-1958, whose construction was begun in 1957. The factory was located in the same vicinity as the Reinforced Concrete Products Plant, but about two kilometers from it. 50X1-HUM c. Printing Combine (Poligraficheskiy Kombinta), a large combine which was designed by the institution and was completed in 1957. It was located on Pl. Yanka Kupala in Minsk and included a large four-story building which housed a printing works for books, a colored photographs printing works, and a boiler room. The combine also included a building for storing paper (no details). d. A sports stadium with a 50, 000-seating capacity, which was designed by the institution and was opened in 1958 on Kirova Street, near the town center. Other Industry and Institutions In Minsk 3. The Minsk Oxygen Plant (Minskiy Kislorodniy Zavod) was located between the town and the Minsk Motor Plant (Minskiy Avotmobilniy Zavod). The oxygen plant was rumored to have supplied the oxygen for the first Soviet space satellite, in 1957. 50X1-HUM 4. A small construction components plant (zavod stroy detaley) was located on the ,southwestern outskirts of the town (exact location unknown). The plant employed about 100 workers in four small, single-story buildings, which housed a sawmill with three frames, a reinforced concrete products department, a metal construction department, and a carpentry shop, which produced doors and windows and their frames. 5. Other industrial enterprises in Minsk included the Minsk tractor Plant (Minskiy Traktorniy Zavod) and the Minsk Boiler and Radiator Plant 50X1-HUM (Minskiy Kotloradyatorniy Zavod.) 6. The only military establishment in or near Minskl Iwas the Military Engineers Academy (Voyenna Inzhenernaya Akademiya), 50X1-HUM located in Kolodishchi on the Minsk/Moscow road. Engineers were said to be trained in radar at the academy. 7. The Minsk television station was located on Kruglaya Ploshchad, in the 50X1-HUM town center. 4 radio jamming station was said to be located in the same area. 8. The MVD headquarters of the Belorussian SSR was housed in a huge, five- story building at the corner of Uritskogo Street and Prospekt Stalina. The building was constructed in 1946-1947 by German prisoners-of-war. 9. Government House (Dom Pravitelstva), a huge 10- story building occupying the entire P1. Lenina, housed the central institutions of the Belorussian SSR, including the Supreme Soviet, the Council of Ministers, the Sovnarkhoz, and all the ministries 10. The oblast Party (Obkompartii) and executive committees (Oblispolkom) occupied a four-or five-story building on Kirova Street. 11. The Central State Bank of the Belorussian SSR was located at the corner of Lenina and Stalin Streets. 12. The three-story building of the headquarters was a hotel before the war. In 1958, two air force officers with the rank of general major had their offices on the third floor of the building. The airfield used by this division was located near the village of Zhabchitsi, about seven kilometers from Pinsk in the direction of Brest. Also located near Zhabchitsi was a military camp which housed an air force regiment and an airfield services unit (baza aerodromnogo obsluzhivaniya) that served the regiment. This regiment shared the same airfield as the air force division from Pinsk. 41. Quarters for married officers of the above air force division, two four- story buildings on ulitsa Brestkaya. Each building contained 46 three- room apartments. 42. Naval hospital, in four two-story buildings.
